Major Construction

We specialize in technically challenging projects and have provided mechanical construction for some of the most prominent buildings in Philadelphia. Major construction projects, including the kind of large-scale pipefitting jobs that other contractors don’t want to tackle, are our heritage.

Essential to our work in major construction in an urban environment is our pipefitting fabrication shop in Conshohocken – a strategically located manufacturing environment that allows us to prefabricate just outside the city and then assemble on site in modular form. For just-in-time delivery and optimum productivity, we provide and set-up the right components at the right time at even the most problematic urban construction sites.

Case study: Pennsylvania Department of General Services

One such client was the Pennsylvania Department of General Services. Using the “best value” RFP process, PA DGS selected Burns Mechanical as the Mechanical Prime Contractor for the new Philadelphia Family Court building, which is designed and built for sustainability, with the goal of achieving LEED NC Silver certification. The best value RFP process weighed price, technical capabilities and minority business participation to determine the final outcome for this $17.5 million contract.

The new home for the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania Family Court is a 14-story, 510,000-square-foot structure at the corner of 15th and Arch Streets, and includes a 3-tier underground parking garage, as well as courtrooms, offices and judicial chambers.
